 My research interests

I research on two major topics; privacy decision making and wellbeing on social media.

  • Privacy decision making: Privacy decision making is more complicated than other daily decision makings. The risks of a privacy decision making are not clear and might affect user negatively in future. The fact that risks are mainly for future leads the user to discount those risks and downsides. On the other hand, the gratification of disclosure is usually immediate (i.e., you should disclose the data so as to use a smartphone application). Hence, privacy decision makings controversial. In my efforts, I try to help the user in this decision process.
  • Wellbeing on social media: Facebook's news feed promotes content the user is most interested in. However, is this interest-based curation enough to create meaningful social network experiences? Research shows that individuals tend to use social media to satisfy a variety of different need, and not everyone is able to get what they are looking for, meet their goals, or use social media to its full potential. My goal in this field is to create social media experiences that are not just interesting and entertaining, but meaningful and supportive.
